Kronos

Purpose: to constantly monitor the system and schedule events (such as batch
submittals).  To collect system statistics on a regular basis.  Alarm clock
type reminders.

Approach: run a detached process that uses shared global common to communicate
with an interactive job and wakes at regular intervals to check for new
activity and scheduled events.

Things to monitor:
   Logins
   Logouts
   Images
   Errors
   Breakin attempts
   Batch jobs
   Subprocesses
   Print jobs
   After hours login
   Failed login
   Disk Quotas
   Disk Space
   CPU, I/O, Faults, etc. vs time of day

Disposition:
   Send message to systems people
   Mail message to systems people
   Record for later query
   Write to disk file
   Double delay time (up to maximum) then repeat

Scheduling:
   Every hour
   Every day
   Every week
   Every month
   Every quarter
   Every year
   At time
   When event occurs

Status reports:
   Next scheduled event
   When is event scheduled
   All scheduled events
   (Log file?)

   DAYLIGHT, STANDARD

   Clean HASP.Q, SCRATCH
   Check security log (REPLY/LOG to create new version first)
   Check SYSLOST
   Purge SYS$MANAGER
