WPE V5.2 USER'S GUIDE - SUPPLEMENT This supplement describes features which have been added or changed in WPE since the publication of the WPE User's Guide for V5.0 The following features are described in this supplement: ADDED FUNCTION FOR THE F19 KEY (Other Window) PARAGRAPH FUNCTION ADDITIONS USING SELECTION TO GET OR INCLUDE A FILE ENHANCED PRINT OPTION TRANSLATION BETWEEN ASCII AND EBCDIC =============================================================================== ADDED FUNCTION FOR THE F19 KEY (Other Window) The F19 "Other Window" key has expanded functionality. This command moves the cursor to another editing buffer or window. The effect of the command depends on whether you currently have ONE window, or MORE THAN ONE windows. IF YOU CURRENTLY HAVE ONE WINDOW: (added functionality) ================================ Puts your next buffer into the current EVE window, returning to your last position in that buffer. This lets you toggle between different buffers or cycle through several buffers without having to type their names. If you have only two buffers, repeating F19 toggles between them. If you have more than two buffers, the next buffer is determined by the order in which you created the buffers. For a list of your buffers, use the SHOW BUFFERS command or press F19 and then press the up-arrow. IF YOU CURRENTLY HAVE MORE THAN ONE WINDOW: ========================================== Puts the cursor at your last position in the next window, if you are using two or more windows. o For example, if you are using three windows like this: +-----------------+ From the top window, the cursor returns to | [] cursor | your last position in the middle window. |_________________| | [] | From the middle window, the cursor returns to |_________________| your last position in the the bottom window. |[] | | | From the bottom window, the cursor returns to +-----------------+ your last position in the top window. If the Choices Buffer is displayed, you can press the F19 key to move between the choices buffer and the command line. This situation may occur, for example, if you have entered an ambiguous command. While in the Choices Buffer, pressing a SELect key will highlight a command to be executed by pressing the DO key. [Notes: (1) This operation is only available with EVE Version T2.2; to see which version of EVE you are using, press Z and examine the status line. (2) The SELect function is not available within the Help function] =============================================================================== PARAGRAPH FUNCTION ADDITIONS WPS Paragraph (KP5) Moves the cursor to the start of the next or previous paragraph, depending on the current direction of the buffer (shown in the status line). o For most files, "paragraphs" are bounded by any of the following: Blank lines Top or bottom of the buffer Page breaks RUNOFF commands (such as .Blank) o In WPE, if you are editing a .TPU file, a "paragraph" is a TPU procedure, regardless of blank lines or page breaks. o In WPE, if you are editing a .HLP file, the start of a "paragraph" is identified as a line which has a number in column 1. =============================================================================== USING SELECTION TO GET OR INCLUDE A FILE The Get File ( F18) and Include File ( G) functions have been enhanced to specify the filename by SELecting appropriate text. You may specify a file by SELECTing text with the filename in any of your buffers. One way to use this feature is to: o Use the I command to put a directory listing in the DCL buffer. For the current directory, the command DIRECTORY is sufficient. For other directories, use the command DIRECTORY/NOHEADER so that the complete file specification is shown in the DCL buffer. o Move the cursor to the DCL buffer, and position to the start of the filename you wish. Press a SELect key, and then press the 'Word' key (KP4). o Press F18 to Get the file (creating a new buffer), OR o Press G to Include the file in the current buffer =============================================================================== ENHANCED PRINT OPTION The Print command will now spawn a subprocess if the printer command begins with the characters DM$ - this allows use of special procedures such as DM$ATP, which prints to a printer attached to your terminal. You should consult your system manager to determine availability of special printing procedures at your installation. =============================================================================== TRANSLATION BETWEEN ASCII AND EBCDIC Part or all of your current buffer may be translated between the EBCDIC and ASCII character sets. If you have extablished a Select Range, the range will be translated; otherwise, the entire buffer will be translated. AtoE - To translate from ASCII to EBCDIC, press the DO key and then type ATOE. EtoA - To translate from EBCDIC to ASCII, press the DO key and then type ETOA. The translation table used is similar to the translation for the 2780/3780 Protocol Emulator. Except for a few special characters, the translation is reversable.
