Ooops... right after I posted that last message, I found a fix.

I used: make CC=stage2/gcc LDFLAGS=-Lstage2/ install

This worked. The remaining intsall-* make targets did not seem to need this 
extra help. If anyone sees any problems with this, please correct me! (I guess
-L./ should also work....) Why didn't my ld look in the current directory for
library files? Does this have to be explicit? libgcc.a was there! Thanks...
