From: J. L. Bingham ManTech International 2320 Mill Road Alexandria, VA 22314 (703) 838-5600 Assistant VAX Systems SIG Tape Librarian To: Members of the VAX Systems SIG Symposia Tape Distribution Tree 1. As decided at the Los Angeles symposium the initial distribution of the Fall 1981 VAX Systems SIG symposia tape is being accomplished by a tree distribution scheme. The rules of the game are as follows: a. Find your name on the attached diagram and from there your parent node. b. Contact your parent node to determine how he wants to handle the transaction. I suggest one of the following: (1) Send the parent $25 (No PO's, let's keep it simple.) to cover the cost of a tape and handling expense, or (2) Send a tape with return mailer and postage. I will send a copy of the tape the nodes directly under me as soon as I have it completed. (Which should be only a few days after this is in the mail.) c. If you are a parent node get the tape reproduced and forwarded as soon as possible. Remember the purpose of the tree distribution is to get the tape to the leaf nodes in a timely manner. d. If you have conplaints about the distribution or suggestions for improving the tape format or the distribution let me or Roger Lipsett know, preferably in writing. 2. I am including detailed copying instructions. Please follow them. To the best of my knowledge there is no other way to copy a BACKUP save-set form one tape to another without the possibility of running into problems with error handling. 3. Every person receiving a tape is expected to be willing to copy it for other VAX users. The distribution tree is being submitted to the Pageswapper for publication so all VAX users will know where they can get a copy of the VAX SIG tape. If you do not have facilities for making copies or object to having your name published as a potential source for the tape please let me know as soon as possible. J. L. BINGHAM
