1 BACKUP PROCEDURE Backup will be performed according to the following guidelines: 1. Incrementally, all three disks, Monday through Thursday. 2. Image, all three disks, each Friday. 3. Image backups will be kept for one month, incrementals as long as feasable, up to one month. To backup: 1. Log into the OPBACKUP account. 2. Choose the appropriate OPBACK function. Repeat for each disk. 3. Exit and correctly label tapes. 2 NOTES: o REMEMBER, new tapes and old incremental tapes MUST be initialized before being used. (BACKUP can do it but not at 6250bpi.) o OPBACK can be used at any time to backup (incrementally or image) any/all disks. Since OPBACK records the last backup date, non-standard backup tapes of this type MUST be kept available with the incremental tape set in the event that a disk needs to be rebuilt. o For incremental backup, if backing up more than one disk leave the tape mounted. This will enable all three incrementals to be resident on the one tape. For backups of this type, label the tape "INC date" and also include the labels OPBACK gives you. If the incremental backup exceeds the first tape, physically dismount it, get a fresh tape (in this case BACKUP correctly initializes the tape at 6250bpi), and physically load the fresh tape. When this completes, label the first tape "INC date" with the labels OPBACK gives you and label the second tape "CONT INC date" with only the OPBACK labels that apply to what is on the tape. For example, TAPE1 TAPE2 INC 19850422 CONT INC 19850422 INC S19850422 INC F19850422 INC U19850422 Page 2 INC F19850422 In this example, the system and user disks were completely incrementally backed up on tape1. The backup of the faculty disk started on tape1 and was continued on tape2. o If during the course of OPBACK you receive an error message followed by the "BACKUP>" prompt, reply with: $ CONTINUE if the tape drive was accidentally off-line and you have put it on-line. $ RESTART if you ascertain that the current tape is defective and you have loaded a new tape in its place. $ QUIT if all other choices have been exhausted.
