BELL.COM $ @BELL BELL will ring the terminal bell five times when first executed, then twice every couple of seconds. All of this is done without scrolling the screen, so that it does not destroy the screen contents. I use BELL to let me know when a long interactive process has finished executing. I have a symbol set in LOGIN ($ BELL == "@dev:[dir]bell") so that all I do is type BELL while the lengthy process is executing, and when it completes the terminal bell starts beeping.
