To: info-multinet@TGV.COM Message-ID: <661635125.797388.MCMAHON@TGV.COM> Mail-System-Version: Organization: TGV, Incorporated (Technical/Pre-Sales Support) X-Address: 603 Mission St., Santa Cruz, CA 95060 X-Phone: 408-427-4366 (Voice) 408-427-4365 (FAX) I figured I would try to answer all the news related questions at once... 1) Availability of VNEWS: The distribution site for VNEWS is the anonymous FTP directory on AMARNA.GSFC.NASA.GOV. The current version is Version 1.3-4. There are other distribution sites (e.g. EARTH.ARC.NASA.GOV) but I do not know what version they are currently carrying. VNEWS 1.3-4 has a few bugs in it. Due to time committments, I found another developer to finish 1.3-5. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get the entire mess to him to work on. I don't expect that to happen until after the holidays. Note: Older versions of VNEWS expect to find LIB.OLB (or somesuch) when trying to link. Please upgrade to the newer version which uses the Socket Library sharable image. 2) Availability of ANU-NEWS: Please contact the author Geoff Huston at GIH900@SAO.AARNET.EDU.AU. I know the software has appeared on the DECUS tapes a few times. 3) Availability of DXRN: The DXRN program is available on GATEKEEPER.DEC.COM as file "/pub/DEC/dxrn.share". This is a command procedure which when executed will unpack into all of the source code for DXRN. A substitute CLIENTLIB.C to support MultiNet is available for Anonymous FTP from TGV.COM. The build procedure for DXRN should be modified to link against the Multinet_Socket_Library sharable library. 4) Include files: Everyone who has MultiNet is shipped a programmer's kit that includes the ".H" files that are needed to compile various news programs. Installing MultiNet does not automatically install the programmer's kit. Check with your system manager, or the installation guide (Chapter 5) for details. TGV does not support use of the socket ".H" files that come with the VAX C compiler for use in programs. Although they usually work, we have had a few problems with them. When writing a program, please use the ".H" files supplied in the programmers kit.
