There is also a pair of programs called HEXIFY and DEHEXIFY which can convert a file to human-readable characters (i.e. the hexadecimal representation of the data in the file) and back again. This is also an option. In fact, Matt Madison uses these programs to help distribut the MX savesets by mail. He compresses the savesets with LZCMP, HEXIFYs them, and then VMS_SHAREs them to make a mailable package. I believe I've seen C versions of HEXIFY and DEHEXIFY available on the Internet. You could check by sending a mail message to one of the following addresses: archie@archie.ans.net archie@archie.mcgill.ca (or archie@cs.mcgill.ca) archie@archie.rutgers.edu archie@archie.sura.net archie@archie.unl.edu If you don't use a signature file, the message can be a single line that looks like this: prog hexify If you do use a signature file, put the line quit immediately after the PROG line. In a day or so you'll receive a message listing all FTP-able files containing the string "hexify".
