Well... I don't know about "proper" :-) but I usually use the following
resources in DECW$TERMINAL.DAT...  Adjust the font names as you see fit.

*littleFontSetName: -schumacher-clean-*-*-*-*-*-120-*-*-c-*-*-*

Examining the DECW$TERMINAL.DAT (and other files) in DECW$SYSTEM_DEFAULTS: seems
like the best place to learn new things.
