The problem was that DECwindows doesn't load up the TCPIP transport software unless you tell it to before DECwindows startup. After placing the following in my systartup_v5.com and rebooting, Xwindow-via-TCPIP connections work with no problems: $ define/sys decw$install_tcpip "TRUE" Thanks again!
