Also included are some Unix utilities, including an enhanced ftpd to provide additional monitoring information. While the programs didn't work on my system, I was able to determine that they had a very nice interface and would work well on a system which is more properly set up for network monitoring. The programs appear to support the Western Digital Ethernet card, but may support others. [LT91B.UNIXMISC] Ease of installation: Varies Documentation: 4 Ease of use: Varies Usefulness: Pretty good stuff Intended audience: System Managers / Programmers Sources included: Yes (see description) Objects included: No This is a collection of various programs for Unix systems. Included is an archive of the Usenet newsgroup `alt.sources' which contains a plethora of miscellaneous programs for Unix (mostly SYSV stuff), the "freely distributable parts" of BSD Unix from the Reno release, and the Postgres relational multi-user DBMS. A nice collection of Unix utilities and such for the Unix programmer. If you're building your own small Unix system, many of these programs will be very useful for you. General information is provided for each subdirectory giving an overview of what is contained within the compressed TAR files making perusal of these directories pretty easy. [LT91B.WAIS] Ease of installation: 2 Documentation: 2 Ease of use: 4 Usefulness: 5 Intended audience: Users Sources included: Yes Objects included: No This submission includes the software necessary to act as a server or a client as part of the WAIS systems (Wide Area Information Servers). Software is included for Unix, VMS, NeXT, and Macintosh computers. Hallelujah! It took a bit of work to get everything running since not much documentation is provided for how to build the kits (the example procedures for MAKE (and BUILD.COM) are for Wollongong and don't map perfectly to TGV's MultiNet) nor where to connect once you have the software running. Once I did get connected though, I was in awe at the number of databases that are out there! I can't wait to work with this package some more.
