My sysdump-common.dmp file has 4 fragments, so I simply create 4 vd: devices each of which map to a contiguous fragment of the discontiguous file. I then just moun/bind them all together into a single logical volume set. It seems to work just fine and is a very nice alternative for those who don't have a large chunk of contiguous space to allocate to a single vd: device. Chip Tewksbury.
