Ok, here comes :-). For starters, let me thank you (and Mark & Harry) for your efforts on this release. It's getting better and better! 1) It appears that the search command is still broken. Try the following: sel news.software.anu-news search/all sloane It should have found many matches but it doesn't find any. It goes through all the motions and tells you how many messages it searched, but doesn't match anything. 2) In NEWSSITE.H, a comment line says that the default for CACHE is OFF. The variables that follow the comment turn it ON. 3) SHOW VERSION is much improved! The description for NEWS_INIT needs to be changed though. I set mine to (around line 953): {"NEWS_INIT", NEWS_INIT, "If non zero, check logical NEWS_INIT or sys$login:news.init at startup" }, 4) There is a typo in NEWSPOST.C. At line 1257, change "Invoiking" to "Invoking" (no i in the middle). This fix was posted to the group in September but missed for 6.1b6. 5) In NEWSPROFILE.C, the Reply-To: setting is not shown. There needs to be a put_line statement at around lines 634 and 640. 6) I'd like to suggest that NEWS_USAGE.COM and GAWK.EXE be included as part of the standard distribution. The command file was developed by Hunter Goatley and posted to this list last year to produce a report from the News usage log file. I can send the command file to anyone that needs it or wants to put it up for FTP with the News distribution. Overall, this release appears better than 6.1b5 so we're (you're!) definitely heading in the right direction. I haven't tested the NNTP server yet to see if all the access violations have gone away. -- Ed Wilts, BC Systems, 4000 Seymour Place, Victoria, B.C., Canada, V8X 4S8 EWilts@Galaxy.Gov.BC.CA Office: (604) 389-3430 Fax: (604) 389-3412
