The response was quitely that they had created a device to recover the tk50 tapes and had started working on a modifed tk70 device, but had to move onto other priorities. Our national account manager tried as did I to get priorities changed, but the answer was always a flat NO. He also tried to find 3rd parities but could not, stating that it's the drive firmware that prevents recovery. Well, while flipping through the Sept. '93 DEC professional pp75, I found several companies that advertised data recovery, one of which mentioned TK tapes! My prevoius message was a little vague not wanting to promote one company over the other. The entire tape recovery turnaround time including travel and customs delays was 6 days! I am very gratefull to Advanced Data Recovery for the help. For those that are interested, their phone number is 1-800-301-3282. See the reference given for others that may also be able to provide this service. So... there's the reference, and 'little' background. I hope others find the fast track should this ever happen them. This has been my experience, I hope it will not be yours. Rod Young
