Welcome to the DECUS Symposium Collection 21, Order No. VS0200. How to find your way around: There are over 10,000 files on this CD-ROM. Finding a specific item or even browsing for interesting things may seem overwhelming. Here are some suggestions for finding your way around. The directory trees are: [97AVMSLT...] VMS and L&T Collection Information, including summaries and tools to process files on those collections (but see below). [DECUSERVE...] DECUServe DEC Notes Conferences, June, 1997; includes a tool for reading conference files without having DEC Notes installed. [DECUSLIB...] DECUS Library catalog and tools to search it. [VMSLT97A...] VMS/L&T SIG Collection: Spring, 1997. Abstracts for the contributed files are located in [97AVMSLT] (look for AAAREADME.*). You can use CSWING to browse the directories and files on this CD-ROM. A copy is in [97AVMSLT.TOOLS]. It can be set up to run from the CD-ROM by typing the following commands, substituting the device name of your CD reader for . To setup CSWING on OpenVMS VAX: $ CSWING == "$:[94AVMSLT.TOOLS]CSWING.EXE" $ DEFINE SWING$HLP :[97AVMSLT.TOOLS] To setup CSWING on OpenVMS AXP: $ CSWING == "$:[94AVMSLT.TOOLS]CSWING.EXE_ALPHA" $ DEFINE SWING$HLP :[97AVMSLT.TOOLS] Then type $ CSWING :[000000] and you're one your way. Complete documentation for CSWING is also in [97AVMSLT.TOOLS]SWING_MANUAL.MEM. A note about file formats: Many of the files on this CD-ROM were originally distributed via tape or network, and as such were compressed, processed, and/or combined by many different tools. While on previous CD-ROMs, all of this tape-or-network-saving effort was undone, with the goal of convenience, regrettably, we could not do much this time. It has simply come to pass that the CD-ROM is filled. The tools to recover files are in [97AVMSLT.TOOLS]; you will have to provide your own processing and disk space. (Also it should be added that these CDs are shared over networks in many cases and having files decompressed makes it really hard to access them in such cases.) Glenn Everhart July 8, 1997
