Hi, I've had a chance to review the mail message you sent me Glenn and I agree that that is the problem. My view and the one I will press is this: When Digital changed DKDRIVER in V5.4-x and introduced an incompatibility with third-party products (I/O Express was the victim that time), DEC issued a special patch and then revised the code formally in V6 to avoid the absence of calling start I/O. I believe such actions by Digital were correct because 3rd party products written by Digital Business Partners should continue to work across VMS releases. I also believe that Digital considered the calling of start I/O to be as "guaranteed" as anything else in VMS. After all, there are tons of things in VMS that people would like change but can't because its a part of the product and thus becomes an aspect of functionality that users depend on. Clearly the DKDRIVER not playing by the rules and going through start I/O is going to affect all my customers using disk products. I can't believe that a mechanism can't be worked out for DKDRIVER to get an IRP off the I/O wait queue without going through the start i/O vector. I'll look through the code as well, but it seems to me that if DUDRIVER can play by the rules so can DKDRIVER. Please let me know if this needs to be escalated. I'm in Ottawa now working on the largest Canadian customer that Digital Please call me at (613) 995-8589 if you can. I'd really appreciate it.
