Please list the networking products (e.g., DECnet/OSI, Multinet, TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS, TCPware, etc.) you plan to use on the field test system(s). PathWay for OpenVMS by Wollongong... BTW, thanks for omitting us in the list above. We might be using DECnet/OSI if it is supported in the 7.0 release. 12. If you are running DECnet/OSI software, are you using the Local Naming Option supplied with the DECnet/OSI kit, or are you using a network-wide DECdns name space for DECnet name to address translation? it varies depending on what we are testing. FIELD TEST PROCESS SECTION __________________________ 13. We are now choosing to use CD-ROM as our primary media distribution for field test. - Will you be able to utilize CD-ROM as the field test software kit distribution mechanism? YES - If not, what are your reasons: 14. Will there be: a. Periods when the computer might not be available? (regular long periods of down time for maintenance) NO b. Periods when testing might not occur? (planned holiday periods, office moves etc, etc) NO If so, for how long and please identify them: c. If any of the primary contacts (admin/tech) are unavailable (e.g. vacation, sickness, etc.) will you be able to provide backup coverage? YES 15. What is your motivation for becoming an OpenVMS field test site; what goals do you expect to accomplish? We are motivated to stay current with the latest versions of VMS since our product is highly coupled with the Operating System. It behoves us to get versions of VMS as early as possible to determine long range changes that might be required. - Describe how you intend to use/test OpenVMS (high level) Basically we plan to port our applications, device drivers, SYMBIONTs etc to the new version of the operating system by upgrading a few machines in our development cluster to the Field test release... once we have ported our software our attention will shift to testing of general features but with special emphasis on networking components and our products interaction with changes in VMS and/or layered products supplied by Digital. 16. How many people will be specifically focused on testing OpenVMS? 2 to 3 17. Are you planning to ramp from single node to a "Production Like" Environment over the life of the field test? probably not. 18. Will it be possible to provide modem access to Digital Engineers, upon request, to aid in the analysis and resolution of problems? yes. 19. Do you have a Digital Software Service agreement? (e.g. Able to call CSC for assistance) yes. 20. Has your company ever participated in an OpenVMS field test before? If so, please describe your experiences? yes. - What do you find is of most benefit to you? getting early access to the releases so that I can determine deltas from previous versions and give feedback based upon issues that I uncover... A number of times I have uncovered issues that likely wouldn't have been touched by other people due to the unique way we integrate with VMS. - Is there anything that DIGITAL could do to make this more beneficial? I think it would be appropriate for some special 3rd parties to be more tightly involved with some kind of program other than Field test... I am not sure that we give you the kind of field testing that you are likely looking for, but there is no other conduit (that I know of) through which software vendors like Wollongong can receive early copies of the newest versions of VMS... I am also sure that their is feedback that we could give that might increase the overall "goodness" of VMS. 21. How do you prefer to report your weekly status reports? [ ] Phone [ ] FAX [ ] Electronically via QAR system [X] Internet - Are you willing to have OpenVMS Engineering call you directly during FT? sure - Do you have an internet mail address? If so, what is your address? yes, larry@eco.twg.com 22. We would like to require Internet access as a prerequisite to be an OpenVMS field test site. Internet communication between OpenVMS Engineering and our field test sites will enhance the communication process and make the field test process more effective. Please let us know if this requirement would be a problem for your site, and why. no problem 23. Would your site be willing to download the layered products that your site would require via the internet? absolutely 24. Would your site be interested in participating in field test training if it were offered? yes. THE QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORTING SYSTEM ______________________________________ The QAR (or Quality Assurance Reporting) system is a vehicle for reporting problems and making inquiries and comments directly to OpenVMS Engineering. Each customer will be issued access information for the QAR system. A toll free 800 dial in number is available for U.S. and Canadian customers. For European and GIA customers, QARs can be entered by the local Digital Software Support Contact; direct dial is not an option. In any case, customers can contact either their local office or Field Test Operations if they have problems entering QARs. FIELD TEST SITE RESPONSIBILITIES ________________________________ Each site selected to field test OpenVMS will be expected to: -Comply with the Terms and Conditions of the OpenVMS "Break-The-Seal" field test agreement which will be included with your field test software kit. -Provide site configuration information (hardware and software) to Digital OpenVMS Product Management. -Install each kit and update within five working days of its receipt. Ensure that all necessary hardware (including cables and terminals) and pre-requisite software are in place prior to field test start. -Test or use the software on a regular and frequent basis. -Submit Quality Assurance Reports (QARs) for all problems with software or documentation. Submission of QARs should be on a daily basis if necessary. -Respond to Digital's periodic polling. Polls may be conducted over the phone, in writing or electronically via internet mail. -Return field test materials or sign a Certification of Destruction letter at the conclusion of field test. An active field test is essential to Digital and its customers. We believe that commitment to the above requirements is necessary to ensure a good field test. If you are selected as a field test site, are you willing to commit to each of the above responsibilities? (Please circle YES or NO): YES Thank you for your interest in the OpenVMS field test.
