<<< HUMANE::DISK$SCSI:[NOTES$LIBRARY]DIGITAL.NOTE;1 >>> -< The Digital way of working >- ================================================================================ Note 5381.0 How to get rid of OpenVMS Customers. 1 reply NNTPD::"stefan.geisen@fkr.mts.dec.com" 50 lines 18-JUL-1997 06:29 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, although DIGITAL is still not tired of telling our valuable VMS customers that OpenVMS has a great future the customers and I , however have experienced the opposite, particularly in the graphics field, and unfortunately without a proper graphic interface you can forget every operating system ! A few examples from real life : 1) A Customer with a large OpenVMS Cluster, 40 Satellites wants to know when DECwindows Applications like DECterm ... will support all the CDE feature ? Answer : There is no Plan that it ever will 2) When will DIGITAL support motif 2.0 ? Answer : There is no Plan that it ever will 3) When will OpenVMS support the 4D40T, 4D50T, 4D60T graphics options ? Answer : I do not know ? Although the Summer Catalogue ( Page 10 ) says that DIGITAL's own operating system ( Open VMS ) does supports them. An important customer wants to show his application at the C-BIT (fair) under the best performance so they bought a 4D60T graphics options for there OpenVMS system. DIGITAL likes to sell things so they provided him this graphics option and Windows NT driver, and I had to explain the customer that OpenVMS does not support these graphics options. What a great advertising for OpenVMS and DIGITAL ! We won't sell many Satellites or AlphaStations when the future of our Graphic - Interface is so poor. By the way, as long as the Alpha PC does not support any simulator ( aircraft, cars ) we won't sell many Alphas in the private market. Regards, Stefan Geisen CSC-Munich [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]
