Raven Project Home Page

Raven is the code name for the next major release of the OpenVMS operating system. The current schedule target is to submit to the SSB in March 1998. Raven will consist of both an Alpha and a VAX release although much of the new functionality will be available on Alpha only. The intent is that Raven is not a ".0" release. Existing applications from OpenVMS V7.1 should work unmodified on Raven.

The overall Raven project content and schedule is currently up in the air... Some of the NT Infrastructure projects have been sliding due to engineering shortage and a lack of co-operation from Microsoft. There has also been building momentium to include Galaxies as a P0 requirement for Raven. The Raven release team is working to come up with a release solution that optimizes delivery of all P0 components. Details should be available by mid-May. In the mean time, we'll continue to persue the published content and schedule for the Raven release.

 P0 Projects for Raven

  1. NT connectivity infrastructure to support DCOM (Alpha only)

  2. Heterogenous file system (probably Alpha only)

  3. On line backup (snap capable disk) (Alpha only)

  4. EV-6 system support (Alpha only obviously)

  5. Year 2000 compliance (Alpha and VAX)

  6. Galaxies?????????????????

Additional focus points for Raven will be 24x7x365 computing and overall system quality
