Subj:	Demo Alpha Machines on the Internet


As a service to the Internet community,  Digital Equipment Corporation
is providing two DEC 4000 Alpha AXP systems, so that you can try out 
Digital's new Alpha AXP architecture.  One system is running  DEC OSF/1 V1.2,
the other system is running OpenVMS V1.5 for Alpha release.  Both have
128MB of memory and 2GB of disk.

These machines are not for benchmarking.  Neither system has been tuned
nor configured for a proper benchmarking environment and may contain field
test software. 

The purpose of providing these systems is to allow you to try out the
functionality of the base system and the compilers, tools and utilities that
are installed on them.  Check each system for more information.  The systems
are axposf.pa.dec.com and axpvms.pa.dec.com and can be reached either via
telnet or rlogin.  

To register for an account, connect to the desired machine, log in as 
axpguest (no password) and answer the questions to be assigned an account.
Please read all the information in the motd/login banner and comply with
all rules for machine usage/restrictions.

I'd like to thank all the people in DEC that made this possible, especially
Myles Falvella, Paul Vixie, Ed Gould, Peter Schmidt and Wayne Vigeant. And a
special thanks to the DEC 4000 team that allowed us to have the machines for
this purpose.

Many of you may remember me promising this oh-so-many months ago.  Well, now
it is real.
