Here is what CMU.FAQ says about the case: ....... PS: And another one of Bruce's unsolicited tips: (Following is applied only for X11-server [i.e. VAX/Station] ) After you bring up the transport with DECWindows, do a NETSTAT to see if the transport was initialized to wait for incoming connections. You should see a TCP port at port 6000 in the LISTEN state. If not, you've done something wrong. Example $ IPNCP IPNCP> netstat 1 TCP connection found IDX Address Local Host Port Foreign Host Port State 2 0004C188 0.0.0.0 23.112 0.0.0.0 0.0 LISTEN 0 UDP connections found ....... And here is an advice from me: Make sure that the line: $ Define/System/Exec/NoLog INTERNET_HOST_NAME "BLA.BLA.BLA.BLA" in IP_STARTUP.COM is commented out. If you upgraded to CMU 6.6-5A you may have your IP_STARTUP.COM replaced with the one that came with the ugrade kit. Over there the difinition ***is commented***. You may have missed the exclamation mark while editing the file. It happened to me when I upgraded to 6.6-5A! DECWindows transport seems to be the only CMU component directly affected by the missing INTERNET_HOST_NAME logical. All other processes work without it! Stan. P.S.: To my understanding things like: $ Define/system/exec/NoLog TCP$XSRV and WKS:6000:XSRV:TCP$XSRV:NETWRK:NETMBX,TMPMBX,PHY_IO,CMKRNL,WORLD,SYSPRV:::::4:5 are not necessary and may even confuse the software. --------------------------+--------------------------------------- Stan(islaw) Gierlotka | High Pressure Research Centre xray@iris.unipress.waw.pl | Polish Academy of Sciences system@vax.unipress.waw.pl| Sokolowska 29, 01-142 Warszawa, Poland X-Ray Diffraction Lab. | phone +(48) 3912 3276 phone +(48 22) 328497 | fax +(48) 3912 0331 __________________________!________________________________________
