But running from a privileged > account I wouldn't expect to get this error. When BACKUP was rewritten to gain performance, it lost a great deal of its reliability. This trade-off was even worse than changing the name to OpenVMS. The privileges you have will still not allow you to exceed process quotas or limits. EXQUOTA only allows you to exceed DISK QUOTAS. If you are short on ASTs, for example, you're out of luck. You need to increase the the UAF values, per DEC's recommendations, to some really HUGE numbers. Since these numbers are probably inappropriate for the regular SYSTEM account, DEC recommends creating an account just for doing backups. So do I. You may choose to modify this as appropriate for your site. My BACKUP account looks like this: Username: BACKUP Owner: System Backups Account: OPER UIC: [10,10] ([OPER,BACKUP]) CLI: DCL Tables: DCLTABLES Default: USERS_OPER$:[BACKUP] LGICMD: LOGIN Flags: DisCtlY LockPwd Primary days: Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Secondary days: Sat Sun No access restrictions Expiration: (none) Pwdminimum: 6 Login Fails: 0 Pwdlifetime: (none) Pwdchange: (pre-expired) Last Login: (none) (interactive), 24-AUG-1995 00:15 (non-interactive) Maxjobs: 0 Fillm: 200 Bytlm: 65536 Maxacctjobs: 0 Shrfillm: 0 Pbytlm: 0 Maxdetach: 0 BIOlm: 128 JTquota: 8192 Prclm: 12 DIOlm: 32767 WSdef: 2048 Prio: 4 ASTlm: 32767 WSquo: 32800 Queprio: 0 TQElm: 10 WSextent: 32800 CPU: (none) Enqlm: 6000 Pgflquo: 90000 Authorized Privileges: GRPPRV NETMBX OPER SETPRV TMPMBX Default Privileges: GRPPRV NETMBX OPER READALL TMPMBX Scott "Data Integrity To Take Over, Hardly Ever Allocate Disks" Hesterman - - - - - - - - - (ok, so that's stretching it a bit...8) % ====== Internet headers and postmarks (see DECWRL::GATEWAY.DOC) ====== % Received: from mail1.digital.com by us2rmc.zko.dec.com (5.65/rmc-22feb94) id AA03117; Thu, 24 Aug 95 13:36:45 -040 % Received: from Topaz.DECUS.Org by mail1.digital.com; (5.65 EXP 4/12/95 for V3.2/1.0/WV) id AA03592; Thu, 24 Aug 1995 10:23:55 -070 % Received: from Reprocess.DECUS.Org by DECUS.Org (PMDF V4.2-13 #9698) id <01HUGB55U5O08WWBVY@DECUS.Org>; Thu, 24 Aug 1995 13:19:04 ED % Received: from linus (mesaii.trw.com) by DECUS.Org (PMDF V4.2-13 #9698) id <01HUGB50W9CG8WWDG3@DECUS.Org>; Thu, 24 Aug 1995 13:18:55 ED % Date: Thu, 24 Aug 1995 10:08:06 -0700 % From: "NAVAJO::HESTERMANS"@mesaii.trw.com (I think, there for I think I am.
