AlphaPC 164, 164LX and 164SX will boot OpenVMS, but on 164SX it crashes randomly (halt code = 7, machine check while in PAL mode, PC = c908). :-( When booted from install CD, VMS may live hours in 164SX. /OK -------------------------- Forum: comp.os.vms Date: 10/13/1999 Fred Kleinsorge wrote: > Osmo Kujala wrote: ... > > VMS seems to run on AXPpci33,PC164,164LX but not 164SX :-( . > > Anything to do with processor 21164PC? > It has to do with the fact that VMS has no support for it. Tried that. Value at 2050 is 1A for 164SX (same as EB164) and should be 1E for DPW (Miata). Console command: >>> d -p 2050 1E made system believe it's Pers. Workstation but then there was still firmware check stopping boot. I edited firm rew matrix on system disk to get further and again finally got the same "machine check while in PAL mode". So I think there is something else wrong. And why is 164LX working? It's very much like 164SX I think, only the processor is different. Should there be special CPU-routines for 21164PC? Now both SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_1E05 (Miata) and SYS$CPU_ROUTINES_1A05(EB164...PC164SX) give the same results = crash. Odd is that the crash is kind of random. It doesn't occur in the same place every time. Something to do with interrupts? ----------------------------------- I don't remember did I try to load Miata firmware in 164SX and then run VMS as above. That might help. regards Osmo Kujala
