Notes: Ghostview

Building

To build Ghostview one first has to install the Xaw3d/Xmu libraries on the system. Since the development/port of all of these were driven by the same person, the default installation assumes that all packages are installed under the same root directory. This is not necessarily the case and can easily be circumvented by defining apporpriate logicals during the build. Assuming you've installed GV from this server, or followed the instructions from the original server concerning the auxilliary directories the following commands will create a new GV image:

$  @[.command]setup distrib compile
$  define xmu_directory public$Root:[xtools.libs.xmu]
$  define xaw_directory public$root:[xtools.libs.xaw]
$  define xmulibshr pubbin:xmulibshr.exe
$  define xaw3dlibshr pubbin:xaw3dlibshr.exe
$  define x11_library public$root:[xtools.libs.xaw.exe_alpha]
$  xmake gv

XXX_directory points to the place where you keep the headerfiles, xxxlibshr points to he shareable libraries (these definitions are also needed at runtime (see discussion in the Xaw notes)) and x11_library contains an options file needed for linking.

Installation

During the compilation a number of X resource files are generated. These can be copied to decw$user_defaults and customized to the needs of the local site.
