CRINOID Distribution

I'd like to have some idea who is using CRINOID and how it's working in different environments, so please drop me a line at lane@duphy4.physics.drexel.edu if you pick up a copy.

LICENSING: CRINOID is "Open Source". You can copy, use, modify, distribute and sell it freely under the terms of the Perl Artistic License, with the relaxed condition that you may sell CRINOID, but any distribution (free or for money) has to keep attributions and make source code available.

CRINOID DISTRIBUTION

Most recent version: 0.52-4

For the change history consult 000_README.TXT.

And for HTTP and FTP downloading, here's the Distribution directory, or you can go to the FTP area directly.

Because these were archived in "VMS-mode", don't try unzipping them on non-VMS machines....in DOS you get a bunch of extra control characters making the files nearly illegible. Use a VMS unZIP utility.

There's a minor Perl patch need to the Opcode extension, so that scripts running in Safe:: partitions think that they're in Main::. Here's a a patch for Perl 5.005.57 or earlier and one for Perl 5.005.59 or later. The most recent versions of Perl 5.7.0 (post 15 Dec 2000) include this patch.

CRINOID is known to work on VMS6.2 (that's what I use). I am not sure if it will work on previous versions of VMS, since the SYS$PERSONA system services are used and (AFAIK) they were introduced with 6.2. I've added some kernal-mode hacks to STUB.C that should work with pre 6.2 systems (they're based on hacks that go back to VMS 2), but no doubt there are other possible problems.

CRINOID compiles cleanly on VMS7.1 AXP and VAX, but I don't have a suitably priv'ed account on a 7.1 machine to test it.

There's apparantly some changes in the SYS$PERSONA system service calls in VMS7.2 (Alpha only), mostly extra parameters added that I don't use. If you try CRINOID on a 7.2 machine, please let me know how it works.

Perl 5.003 or later is required, because of the use of Embed.pm. It works fine on Perl 5.005.56 through 5.6.0.
