At http://www.crinoid.com/utils/ their is a link to GZIP v1.2.4a from
prep.ai.mit.edu and a link for a patch kit by Peter Prymmer to make it
work with DECC and an I/O redirection so that things like
"gzip -dc foo.tar-gz > bar" will work along with some extra OpenVMS v7.1
patches.

It seems to work well and adding the line of code by Paul Repacholi to
speed it up was even better.

If anyone is interested, I have put a complete kit together with all the
patches, build scripts and you can download it at.

I've tested it on Alpha and VAX and it seems to work pretty well.
