Possibly BUT the 10 second rate indicates that the VAX is sending a signal and expecting the modem to react to that signal. on MOST modems you can overcome that error by settting and permanently saving &S1 to use DSR handshake. I also typically set &D3 - disconnect and reset on loss of DTR, &C1 - carrier detect, &K2 - XON/XOFF (tta2 doesn't support rts/cts this is why I prefer to put my modems on a terminal server), E0 - no echo, q1 - do not return codes. The last 2 settings are needed to prevent messages like RING from starting a login and the subsequent username: prompt from being echoed as the username. The only problem with the last 2 settings is when you set host/dte tta2 you have to remember to ate1q0 to temporarily enable them.
