   What's New  OpenVMS Alpha[NEW]

     Download  Digital is incorporating the JavaTM Development Kit as a

   Benchmarks  standard component of the DIGITAL OpenVMS Alpha Operating
               System. As a result, we are now able to offer our customers
   Frequently  the opportunity to download this software at no charge. This
        Asked  is an opportunity for our customers to take advantage of the
    Questions  Java Development Kit immediately, without waiting for the
               normal DIGITAL OpenVMS Alpha release cycle. A future release
   Contact Us  of DIGITAL OpenVMS Alpha will be distributed with a Java
               Development Kit as part of the DIGITAL OpenVMS Alpha
               distribution kit. All customers who purchase DIGITAL OpenVMS
               Alpha systems, customers under warranty for DIGITAL OpenVMS
               Alpha, and customers with service agreements for DIGITAL
               OpenVMS Alpha will automatically receive the Java
               Development Kit as part of the standard distribution.

               Special Features of the JDK 1.1 for DIGITAL OpenVMS Alpha
               release:

               This release includes a just-in-time compiler (JIT)[Image].
               The JIT compiler provides on-the-fly compilation of your
               application's Java byte-codes and runtime calls into native
               Alpha machine code. This results in significantly faster
               execution of your Java application compared with running it
               using the Java interpreter.

               This release implements Java threads on top of native
               (POSIX) threads. This means that different Java threads in
               your application can run on different processors, provided
               that you have a multi-processor machine. It also means that
               your Java application will run properly when linked with
               native methods or native APIs (such as DCE) that are also
               implemented using POSIX threads. We encourage users to take
               advantage of this feature and report to us on their
               experiences.

               All licensed DIGITAL OpenVMS Alpha customers are entitled to
               download a copy of the Java Development Kit at no cost,
               subject to the attached Software Licensing Terms and
               Conditions. Please read these thoroughly and commence
               downloading of kits only after acceptance of these terms and
               conditions. If you access this software you are manifesting
               your legal agreement to the terms of the Digital Software
               License Agreement.
