SAMBA for VMS is a port of Andrew Tridgell's SAMBA package. The current port is based on Samba V1.9.17p4.

For those who are interested:
The problem was not really solved, we still don't know, why it happened. The open file code was reverted to that of 1.9.16p2. Now a file won't be opened R/W if the client request a read. Also the file modification date is no longer changed on a read. The price was to completely disable the samba share modes which did not work correctly anyway because of the missing fcntl() system call. The samba team agrees that opening a file R/W regardless of the access mode isn't a good idea and that this could be changed in a furture release (hopefully).

This VMS port is beta test. It currently runs on:

• VMS V6.0 and higher (VAX and Alpha)
• UCX (probably V3.2 needed at least) and MultiNet, TCPware, Pathway via UCX emulation.

Normally you will want to download the binary distribution. You don't need a compiler then. Alternatively get the source.

To compile it:

• VMS V6.0 or higher required
• DEC-C V5.0 or higher required

Work is currently done on:

• Bugfixes.
• Eleminate linking to system symbols for V6.2 and higher systems
