From: GWDVMS::MOELLER [moeller@gwdvms.dnet.gwdg.de] Sent: Tuesday, July 06, 1999 4:36 AM To: Info-VAX@Mvb.Saic.Com Subject: [PK2K] VMS V7.2 on Vs2000 You know that I do like the idea of "V5.5-2 forever" ... HOWEVER, anyway I upgraded one system root on that hobby Vs2000 of mine which has `the' 4GB disk, from V7.1 to V7.2, with little `outside' help ... sure, it took many hours :-) So, there's one more item to pick up from the PK2K areas at {ftp,http}://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/vms/pk2k/preview/ and ftp://gwdw04.gwdg.de/vms/pk2k/preview/ The latter machine might also be known [to the chosen few] as gwdw04.gwdg.de"anonymous":: (not that a Vs2000 was suitable for running DECnet-Plus :-). P.S. I finally learned how to overcome the weirdness introduced (afaik) with DECW-Motif V1.2-3, which insists upon (almost) silently resetting the system paramter WINDOW_SYSTEM from 0 to 1 (sure, the Vs2000's memory feels better w/o any Motif application running :-). Add the lines following lines to SYS$MANAGER:SYLOGICALS.COM ... $ if f$getsyi("window_system").eq.0 ! Motif 1.2-3 doesn't like this $ then $ define/system DECW$IGNORE_WORKSTATION TRUE ! the new wording ... $ define/system DECW$IGNORE_AUTOGEN TRUE ! avoid re-setting $ endif Enjoy, Wolfgang J.
